PHYSIOTHERAPISTS
APPLICANTS TRAINED OUTSIDE THE EEA
 |
All applicants from outside the EEA, whose training and post-qualification experience have been assessed as equivalent to a UK BSc degree will always be considered for state registration (see below). |
 |
Where required, applicants will be recommended to undertake a period of adaptation (see below) to deal with identified differences in their range of practice compared to that practiced in the UK. |
Your qualifying education would need to generally correspond with
the UK BSc degree programme in academic equivalence and study. The
comparison is to that of a newly qualified UK-trained physiotherapist
in terms of the range of skills and knowledge required. It is advisable
therefore to write to the National Academic Record and Information
Centre (NARIC) with details of the degree you have taken. You will
then receive confirmation whether your degree is equivalent to that
of the UK BSc and, if so, you will be sent the required “Equivalence
Certificate”. The Equivalence Certificate is issued to you FREE.
To do this, please contact NARIC as soon as possible at:
The National Academic Recognition Information Council (UK
NARIC):

All Physiotherapists with training and post-qualification experience
equivalent to the UK BSc degree will be automatically eligible for
State Registration. Therefore if you receive confirmation and you
are issued with an Equivalence Certificate you should contact the
HPC immediately at:
The Registrar

Fax: (+44) 020 7820 9684
Please note that an application to NARIC is treated as an application
for recognition of qualifications under the relevant EEC Directives
and NARIC will reply to you with minimal delay in giving such recognition.
Whilst there is no automatic recognition of professional qualifications
or the right to work in any member state, all applicants have the
right to be considered.
Period of adaptation
| It is quite normal the HPC to require a non-UK trained applicant
to undertake a period of adaptation. This would be for a relatively
short period of time and the HPC will request that your period of
adaptation be completed through either: |
 |
a hospital willing to provide clinical supervision; or |
 |
following a course approved by the HPC |
