DOCTORS & CONSULTANTS
Advice for overseas applicants
Before you can apply for a position within the
UK you must be registered with the General Medical Council ("GMC").
Due to EU legislation on free movement, you are only entitled to
full registration without examination if you are a citizen of the
EEA (see below) and obtained your undergraduate medical qualification
in the EEA. If you do not fall into both these categories you will
probably be required to sit the PLAB test (Professional Linguistic
and Assessment Board) - a language and clinical examination administered
by the GMC. Only in exceptional circumstances can you apply for
jobs without having passed this test. Please contact the GMC if
you wish to apply for the test. Please refer to our Summary
of how to register, which will give you step-by-step detail
of how to go about registering with the GMC and details of what
the tests consist of.
